Chef Riko: A Recipe for Recovery

First day…or, day -7

Well, I received one unit of Chemo at midnight. Up until midnight, I received meds (some caused drowsiness) and was transfused with red blood cells due to low neutrophil and hemoglobin. Platelets were transfused earlier in the evening. Midnight came around and I feel asleep shortly after. So I kind of missed the first round which took approximately three hours I was informed. During that time a was also given vitals (BP, oxygen rate, and temp) that I didn’t remember. As the morning came my bloodwork was observed to track the Chemo and the dosage of additional accompanying meds. I am constantly given vitals and periodically bloodwork to track my levels.

During the day I connected Apple TV (gifted from the Duros) to the television in my room. This is a game changer! Now I can stream Netflix, Hulu, Youtube, YoutubeTV, etc. The regular tv has limited cable and a movie channel that I watched most of already. It has some informational stuff I should watch. Meals? I really was over it the last time I was admitted. I tend to have two meals a day. Before was breakfast and a late lunch. I was not a breakfast person before. Today was lunch and dinner. As I was over the menus choices my go-to for lunch was a turkey melt with bacon, tomato soup and Lays baked potato chips which had today. It was ok, not disappointing but not the best I’ve had here. Dinner, Penne with tomato sauce & parm with grilled chicken added. Was good. It’s hospital food. The ironic thing about this dish is that when I was here before, I ordered this twice previously. First time, I was so out of it. I had really bad knee pain and I had no appetite. The second attempt, I’m not sure why, but I was just not into it. So, I thought I would just get it out of the way. Again, not disappointing. Now, we, Kim and I are watching Survivor 47. I never was into it until a couple of weeks ago. Malia and Eddie are way into it. Anyone else?
