Day +3

Had a nice restful sleep as he was not hooked up to IV fluids until around 3am. Woke up to getting platelets since his count was 9 at the 12am blood draw. After falling back asleep, ended up waking up frequently as the fluids were kicking in and needed to empty his bladder about every 1 1/2 to 2 hours. When his Nurse Laura came in to disconnect him after the platelet transfusion around 4:30, she gave him what she called “IV Freedom”. He has not been connected to an IV and can walk around his room and at least make it to the window without being attached to anything. He has been suffering some abdominal pain, so they have recently given him something to help counteract it. Mouth sores are healing because he has been very diligent about the saline rinses every 1 to 2 hours. He has lost 6 pounds since yesterday and was able to eat breakfast today while taking the 8 pills that he takes in the AM to help prevent any infections and GVHD (Graft vs Host Disease). Additionally, he will be getting the Day +3 chemo, Methotrexate around 4pm. This is an immunosuppressant and is also used to help prevent GVHD. Today is proving to be a restful morning so far.
