Day +30

Friday, November 8: Platelets: 11 Hemo: 7.2 WBC: 2.49. What does Day +30 mean? Well, it is the day where they do the first bone marrow biopsy since transplant. Initially this was scheduled in the outpatient clinic. Since they felt it was best to stay another 24-72 hours in the hospital in order to monitor the stool output and the need for transfusions, the biopsy was done in the hospital room. Prelim results should be back within 24-48 hours while the final results will take approximately 7-10 days as there are multiple samples that are being analyzed. These results should determine if there are any “host” cells left and what percent of “donor” cells are in the bone marrow. There is another test, chimerism, that is being done to test the blood and compare the results with the biopsy. These should also show if there is GVHD, any cancer cells and how well the engraftment is going. Big day! Another will take place at Day +100.
